Ten MHS students to attend STEM Day at SFA
Ten Mineola High School students will attend STEM Day at Stephen F. Austin University on Feb. 22 thanks to a grant by Suddenlink.
STEM Day is an annual event at the university where students use science, technology, engineering and math to solve problems, help others and have fun.
Some examples of STEM Day activities include designing a video game, extracting DNA from strawberries, studying microbes, creating a salt cave, learning the science of cooking, and learning how the body recovers from injuries.
Students will select hands-on activities and labs based on areas of interest and rotate through sessions throughout the morning. The afternoon includes a physics magic show.
“It is our commitment as a technology and communications company to support and inspire the next generation of leaders, and we are honored to partner with Stephen F. Austin and local school districts who share our commitment. Through this partnership, we can provide innovative ways for our high school students to gain additional learning opportunities so they get the foundational STEM skills and knowledge needed for careers in technology,” said Travis Nance, Suddenlink’s regional vice president of strategic market planning.
The following Mineola High School students will attend STEM Day: Valeria Garcia, Michael Spurgeon, Adrian French, Matthew Carder, Mateo Renauld, Hannah Zoch, Pennie Smith, Sarah Arcand, Emmitt Brown and Malayna Rohus.
