• The Taste of East Texas hosted by the Republican Women of East Texas is set for Saturday at Mineola Civic Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Adult tickets are $12 and children are $6.

• Lake Fork Chamber of Commerce is having their member Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Luau Thursday at Scarbrough Haven in Emory. Gates open at 4 p.m. food service at 5 p.m. RSVP required to info@LakeForkChamber.org or call 800-846-1859.

• Mineola football is scrimmaging Caddo Mills at Meredith Memorial Stadium this Friday.

• Alba-Golden football will host Kemp Thursday in their final scrimmage before the Aug. 31 home opener against Hawkins. Hawkins will be hosting Frankston Thursday at Lowrance Field in Hawkins.

• The Quitman football scrimmage at Como-Pickton has been moved to Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. at Ron Heflin Stadium on the just west of the main campus.

• Alba-Golden and Quitman volleyball teams will be in action this weekend at the Tyler Invitational Tournament.

• Classes for Alba-Golden ISD will begin August 27.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
