• Stitchin’ Heaven will have a ground-breaking ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m. at their location in the Quitman Business Park on Richards Street.

• The Mineola Independent School District will conduct a Town Hall meeting starting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at the High School auditorium. The subject will be academics and Career and Technical Education.

• Alba-Golden and Quitman will open District 12-3A volleyball play on the road Friday. The Lady Panthers travel to Edgewood while Quitman’s Lady Bulldogs will be at Lone Oak. Varsity teams in both matches will play at 4:30 p.m. Mineola opens district competition Sept. 11 at Alba-Golden.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
