• The new walking track at Quitman Elementary School will be dedicated Thursday at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

• The 5th annual Lake Holbrook fish fry is Saturday from serving fish from noon to 5 p.m., $10 a plate for adults and $5 under 12. There will be activities all day including horseshoe, cornhole and bass fishing tournaments. Serving will be on CR 2298 at Golden Park and boat ramp.

• A sale of books and baked goods to benefit the Mineola Memorial Library will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1721 N. Pacific St. Cash and checks only, please.

• Come out to the Junk in the Trunk sale on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mineola Civic Center to sell or purchase unique items. It is garage sale style, so bring what you like if you want to sell or shop around. For more information, call 903 569-6115.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
