Track and field athletes ready for regionals
A host of local high school athletes snared gold medals at the UIL area track meet at Rains High School on April 18.
Individual Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman gold medal winners included: Lizzie Hallman (Alba-Golden) 16-2 in the long jump, Meghan Brewington (Mineola) 2:27.47 in the 800 meter run, Abby Kratzmeyer (Mineola) 12-00 in the pole vault, Alaina Lopez (Mineola) 50.67 in the 300 meter hurdles, and Brooklyn Marcee (Quitman) 16.90 in the 100 meter hurdles.

Individual Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman gold medal winners included: Lizzie Hallman (Alba-Golden) 16-2 in the long jump, Meghan Brewington (Mineola) 2:27.47 in the 800 meter run, Abby Kratzmeyer (Mineola) 12-00 in the pole vault, Alaina Lopez (Mineola) 50.67 in the 300 meter hurdles, and Brooklyn Marcee (Quitman) 16.90 in the 100 meter hurdles.
The Mineola womens team placed first in the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays.
Alba-Golden’s second- and third-place finishers included: Chris Chabaud in the pole vault, Bella Crawford and Samantha Rambsel in the 100 meter hurdles, Bella Crawford in the 300 meter hurdles, Ashlyn Rogers in the 400 meter dash, Ashlyn Rogers and Abby Hallman in the pole vault, and Zane Smith in the triple jump.
Mineola’s second- and third-place finishers were: Tahjae Black in the long jump, Devin Cormier in the 300 meter hurdles, Wylie Franks in the 110 meter hurdles and high jump, Alia Freeman in the high jump, Dalton Rogers in the 100 meter dash, Trevion Sneed in the shot put, Julianna Stanley in the 800 meter run, Tiara Stephens in the shot put, and Hannah Zoch in the 1600 meter run and 3200 meter run.
Quitman’s second- and third-place finishers were Trey Berry in the long jump, Riley Flanagan in the 800 meter run and Maddy Whitehurst in the discus.
The regional track and field meet will be hosted by Whitehouse High School April 26-27.
