Wood County Sheriff’s Department activities for the past week included:

Nov. 21 – Sergeant Donivan South was dispatched to The Game Room on Highway 80 in Mineola area on a burglary of a building. The store manager said that the business had been broken into and she had video footage of the subjects gaining entry. She said the suspects had left several items behind the building where entry was made and they were collected for evidentiary purposes. South viewed the video and saw an unknown subject climb through the window. South photographed the scene and forwarded the case to CID for continued investigation.

Sergeant South was dispatched to County Road 3860 in the Hawkins area on a petition from residents concerning a property on which several dilapidated mobile homes and junk vehicles are located. South met with the property owner and advised him that his property meets the criteria for a public nuisance which pose safety and health threats to others. The property owner was given 31 days to clean up the property. The case remains active pending the property owner’s compliance.

Nov. 20 – Deputy Steven Fields attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of CR 1676 after recognizing the driver of a gray Ford Taurus as a man with active warrants. The car’s driver accelerated and turned onto an unnumbered dirt road where he traveled at a high rate of speed before turning back onto CR 1676. The driver collided with Deputy Josh Davis and both vehicles came to a rest in a ditch. The man exited his vehicle and ran into a nearby wooded area. Fields pursued the man on foot approximately 200 yards before he was able to take the man into custody. Kevin Lee Allen, 34, of Alba was transported to jail on outstanding Rains County warrants.

Nov. 19 – Deputy Brandie Cunningham was dispatched to CR 3448 in the Hawkins area for a theft report. A woman said that she had discovered her husband’s generator missing from a storage building. The case has been forwarded for investigation.

Nov. 17 – Sergeant South was dispatched to a residence on Farm-to-Market Road 14 for criminal mischief after a man called 9-1-1 to report that someone was tampering with his vehicle. The complainant said that he was awakened at approximately 5 a.m. by the sound of someone popping the lug nuts loose on his wife’s SUV. The man said he went outside but did not see anyone around the vehicle. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

Nov. 16 – Deputy Aaron Warren was dispatched to Custom Coffee Creations on FM 2869 in the Hawkins area on a burglary. The business owner said that someone had broken into the store and taken several blocks of ham and turkey from the freezer as well as soft drinks from the refrigerator. A tool kit was also missing from underneath a counter. Warren found the back door bore pry marks from where it had been forced open. The case has been turned over to investigators.
