Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) has received an Art Works grant of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
The award stems from $80 million in grants approved by the NEA as part of the endowment’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019.
The Winnsboro grant is for a six-week musical theatre summer program for children in rural East Texas. Art Works is the endowment’s principal grant-making program. The agency received 1,592 Art Works applications for this round and will award 977 in this category.
“These awards, reaching every corner of the United States, are a testament to the artistic richness and diversity in our country,” said Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “Organizations such as Winnsboro Center for the Arts are giving people in their community the opportunity to learn, create, and be inspired.”
This is the first time the NEA has awarded a grant to a Winnsboro organization, according to WCA President Mary White.
