The Quitman Lady Bulldogs fell Friday night at the hands of the Winnsboro Lady Raiders 56-19.

The game started at a brisk pace with the Lady Raiders quickly scoring six while Lady Bulldogs Allie Berry and Addison Marcee kept up, each scoring a basket. Berry also had a strong drive toward the basket and then passed to Sophia Reynolds who hit a triple.  The Raiders quickly found their groove, though, and went on to outpace the Bulldogs with the first quarter ending in Winnsboro’s favor 13-7.

The Lady Bulldogs hustled fiercely but could not hold off the Lady Raiders in the second quarter. The Raiders jumped to a big lead scoring 21 points, with 12 of those coming from three pointers. Winnsboro’s Hadlee Brown had two triples, and Halle Deaton and Kaitlyn McAdoo also scored a triple each. Quitman’s lone basket in the second quarter came from senior Kaylie Wood while sophomore Annabelle Popek contributed two more points, nailing two free throws.

Quitman continued to struggle to keep pace with the Lady Raiders in the third quarter, getting outscored 14-5. Raider Hadlee Brown continued to dominate the courts, scoring a pair of baskets and three free throws. Deaton also contributed with a triple and two free throws, while McAdoo rounded out their scoring securing two more points. The lone basket for Quitman came after a drive by Sadie Vander Schaaf who passed it to Autumn Cason in the lane who then effortlessly tossed the ball in for two. Cason also went on to score a free throw, and Popek went two for four at the free throw line.

The final quarter was rough for the Lady Bulldogs with Autumn Cason making their only basket. Winnsboro scored eight in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 56-19. The loss brings Quitman’s record to 2-4 in district play and 13-13 overall. Quitman’s Lady Bulldogs will travel to play Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill on Jan. 19 and have a bye on the 23rd.
