Wood County fugitive arrested at border
A man wanted for a six-year-old child sex abuse case in Wood County was stopped at the U.S./Mexico border on Monday, April 1 and jailed in Hidalgo County.
Emilio Torres Salas, 66, was indicted in Wood County for sex abuse of child continuous: victim under 14, a first degree felony, on March 28, 2018 for an offense on April 13, 2017.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Progreso/Donna encountered Salas on foot at the Progreso International Bridge and referred him for a secondary examination.
The officers utilized biometric verification and federal law enforcement data bases to verify his identity and confirmed he had an outstanding arrest warrant in Wood County.
He was turned over to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, where he remained jailed on $250,000 bond as of Tuesday morning.
