    Mineola’s 64-51 victory over visiting Trinity Academy Dec. 3 was three games in one. The first game spanned the first quarter and extended three minutes into the second period. Fluid scoring by both sides marked this action, and it ended with 5:16 on the clock left in the first half and the score tied at 19.

  • Boettcher notches 700th win leading Alba-Golden

    The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers’ Nov. 25 win over All Saints was a pretty normal basketball game between two young teams. The Lady Panthers prevailed 47-35 to earn their fourth win of the early season. Unbeknownst to but a few, the win was also the 700th career girls high school coaching victory for new Alba-Golden Head Coach Eric Boettcher.

    The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers clawed out a solid victory last Tuesday, 42-35 over the Scurry-Rosser Lady Cats.

  • Quitman faces stern test in Lipan tourney

    The Quitman Bulldogs went west to Lipan to take on some of the top basketball schools in the state. In their four games, three opponents were state-ranked. Quitman took on fellow Class 3A team Millsap before tangling with Class A defending state champion and current number one team in the state Slidell, followed by playing 13th ranked Lipan and 21st ranked Saltillo.

  • Bulldogs have little trouble in victory over Cumby

    The Quitman Bulldogs steamrolled past Cumby ripping the Trojans 88-26 last Tuesday at Ballard Gym. The Bulldogs raced to 28-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.

  • Last-second win aids Mineola effort

    It was an inbound play from under the Mineola basket. With 16 seconds left on the clock, and the score tied at 45, the Yellowjackets needed a score to stay in the tournament. Inbound plays are a source of pride in the Jacket basketball program, and that pride is well-placed. The pass went to the second man flashing into the lane. Kelby Bruner secured the pass and in one motion went up for an uncontested lay-in.

  • All-district 19-3A football honors announced

    The Alba-Golden Panthers have six players named to the District 19-3A D2 all district football first team. They are offensive lineman Jacob Dailey, fullback Austin Hartley and running back Jon Chadwick. On the defensive first team are defensive lineman Tim Mitchell and safety Jon Chadwick.

    All facets of the Lady Jackets’ game were on point last Tuesday as Mineola defeated the visiting Malakoff Lady Tigers, 54-23.  A smothering press, excellent court awareness and beautiful ball movement highlighted the win.
