  • County hospital district sets tax rate

    The Wood County Central Hospital District board of directors voted to set a tax rate at 1.57 cents per $100 valuation and adopted a $283,146 budget for the 2019 fiscal year Tuesday afternoon. The tax rate is down from last year’s 1.95 cents.

    Elnora Jean Boyd of Quitman passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14. She was born in Foreman, Ark. on Aug. 12, 1934, to John Dee and Mabel Madden. She was a Baptist and a retired tax accountant. Mrs. Boyd had a long illness of heart disease that she fought for many years.

    Funeral service for Jerry Gooch was held on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at 4 p.m. with the Pentecostals of Lindale, Bros. Bryan Tomplait and Robert Remedies officiating. The family received friends at 3 p.m. at the church. Interment followed at the Hawkins Cemetery.

  • Louis P. Geremonte 1943-2019

    Louis P. Geremonte, 76, of Grand Saline, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 in Tyler. He was born July 27, 1943 in Bayonne, N.J. to the late Jerry Geremonte and Elizabeth Geremonte. He attended His Church Ministries and was a former member of the Mineola Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus.

    Doyle Ray Few was born in Mineola May 19, 1942 and died peacefully at home Sept. 13, 2019 surrounded by his family. He attended Mineola High School.
