The First Baptist Church in Yantis will host a resource and health fair and back to school event Saturday, Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is free and includes food, games and health screenings.

Several community organizations will be set up to show how they can assist local families.

The church is located at 100 Church St. In Yantis.

The event will highlight a Back to School Bash with bounce houses, blow up water slides and other games. There will also be free hotdogs, snow cones and popcorn.

There will be an opportunity for parents to sign up their kids for the FBCY Wednesday Night Kids Program. With the permission of parents and the Yantis ISD, the church (FBCY) will pick up kids K-12 after school on Wednesdays to bring to the church for games, Bible study time and snacks. The Wednesday Night Kids Program is from 3:30 to 5:30 during the school year.

The event will also highlight the Yantis community businesses. Each business will have the opportunity to display information for their business in an area setup especially for them.

“We are very proud of the local businesses and want to promote them so folks in the area can see what our town has to offer,” the church’s Steve Couch said.

Along with these will be a Community Health Fair which will feature organizations and services that are available to everyone. Some of those include Carter Blood Center bus for blood donations, Trinity Mother Francis, East Texas Council on Aging, 2-1-1 East Texas Region Area Info Center, Single Parent Ministry, Heart of Hope Pregnancy Center and many others.

Also the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department, Wood County Sheriff’s office, Military recruiters and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
