Conference cutoffs announced Friday by the University Interscholastic League for competition during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years will see Yantis move up to 2A from 1A while other area schools remain unchanged.

Alba-Golden just missed moving up to 3A.

The school grew from 229 students in high school two years ago to 247 this time.

The cutoff from 2A to 3A increased from 249 to 253, leaving AGHS in the 2A ranks.

Yantis grew by only four students, from 102 to 106, but with the cutoff from 1A to 2A staying at 105, the Owls will go up against other 2A schools.

The cutoff number from 3A to 4A, watched closely by some Mineola observers, did not change, staying at 544 and leaving Mineola comfortably within the 3A ranks at 479.5. The district was at 461 two years ago.

Quitman also stays in 3A at 352 and more importantly, will compete in Division 2 for football with schools from 254 to 368 students.

The divisional cutoff rose from 360 to 368.

Other schools remaining in 3A that compete with area districts include Pottsboro at 462, Mt. Vernon at 484, Winnsboro at 496 and Atlanta – a perennial first-round playoff foe – at 504.

One 3A power outside the area made a significant move up, with Brock going into 4A at 624 students, up from 532 two years ago.

The 6A cutoff for the school’s largest states grew from 2,224 to 2,274, meaning another powerhouse will not make its expected move up, 11-time state football champion Aledo at 2,267, up from 2,090.

The 5A cutoff grew from 1,300 to 1,315 on the lower end and divisional cutoff from 1,902 to 1,925.

The top end for 4A increased by 15 students to 1,314 while the divisional cutoff was upped to 956 from 880.

There will be five fewer schools competing in 3A football, 201, down from 206. 4A grew from 192 to 200 while 2A dropped by one to 206 and 6A lost one to 250.

The UIL will announce district realignments Feb. 1, with few changes likely for area teams.
