As part of the Young Eagles Program, Wisdom Aviation hosted Mineola Cub Scout Pack 385 on Saturday at Wood County Airport Collins Field. 

The Young Eagles Program was created by the U.S. Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and is designed to give children ages 8-17 an opportunity to experience flight in a general aviation airplane while learning about aviation. 

It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.

The costs associated with the program are covered by volunteers. It is free to the children who participate. 

Pilots donate their time, use of their airplane and fuel. EAA donates insurance and provides free online flight training to help children pursue their pilot’s license.

Since 1992, Young Eagles has flown more than two million children in 90 countries. 

Joanne and John Wisdom are members of EAA Local Chapter 1475. John started the local chapter and has served as president since its inception. Along with other local pilots, they have done Young Eagle flights since the beginning.

Children who participate get an introductory flight, a log book, access to the website and can attain ground school for free. They are taught about airplanes and have the opportunity to get their license.
