A-G overwhelms Fruitvale Bobcats
The Alba-Golden Panthers dismantled the visiting Fruitvale Bobcats, 76-17, last Tuesday.
The obviously very well-conditioned Alba-Golden squad relentlessly attacked the goal and out-competed the Bobcats throughout.
A few passages of play are enough to illustrate the flow of events on the night.
Conner Gibson opened the scoring with an offensive rebound put-back in the lane. Moments later he connected on a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give Alba-Golden a quick 5-0 lead.
The Panthers put in some yeoman’s work in the opening quarter. One of their best passages of play was some inside passing from Braylon Moffett to Kaden Kennedy to Jerry Skinner. Although the sequence did not produce points, it was one of the best basketball moments of the game.
As the game neared halftime, the Panthers had another solid basketball sequence. Boogie Trimble stole the ball in the defensive zone and issued an assist to Gavin Parker. Braydon Randolph had a jumper rebound off the iron, but he stole the ball from the Fruitvale rebounder. Taking the ball inbound then in the offensive zone, Gibson posted up at the key and hit a 3-pointer.
The Panthers dominated the second half. Skinner had 12 points on inside buckets in the third quarter alone – one score came after Alba-Golden had secured four consecutive offensive rebounds on one possession.
Four Panthers – Gibson, Kennedy, Gavin Dailey and Skinner – scored in double figures. All told, eight Panthers etched the scorecard.
The Panthers will be in for a much stiffer challenge Friday when they host the Cooper Bulldogs.
