AGISD accesses additional state CTE funds

The Alba-Golden  ISD board of trustees took action at a special session last Thursday that stands to garner the district an additional $200,000 in state funding. The board approved, by unanimous vote, innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.

According to Superintendent Shelby Davidson, once approved by the board and appropriately codified, the new curriculum will result in a $50,000 windfall for establishing the program and an additional $150,000 stipend forecasted for the program in the 2024-25 school year.

Davidson explained that the initiative came out of an audit requested by the district from Region Seven Education Service Center. The audit investigated Alba-Golden’s CTE program in an effort to ensure the district was maximizing the program’s effectiveness.

The innovative CTE program makes use of activities in one area to garner credit in another area.

Davidson offered the examples of public speaking in the FFA and general employability skills for office assistants.

The board also approved a new copier contract with the firm Document Solutions. The $33K contract will save the district over $18K over the cost of the previous contract.

In other action, a bid from the Texarkana firm Reliance Mechanical, in the amount of $64,800, was unanimously accepted for the purchase of a new cafetorium cooler.

The annual out-of-state FFA trip to Broken Bow, Okla. June 11-13 received unanimous approval by the board.

The trip is scheduled June 11-13.

Board President Matt Haisten was joined by board members Jessica Christian, Terry Clark, Dwayne Ellis and Kristopher Quintana.
