The Alba-Golden ISD has transitioned to twice-a-month payroll. The announcement was made at Monday’s school board meeting.

Superintendent Shelby Davidson remarked, “This is a cause for celebration, and it is hoped that this will greatly assist all employees of the district.”

Davidson described some of the considerable efforts which went into the transition. He also noted that the first twice-monthly payments were sent out or deposited the next day. 

The superintendent also informed the board that the state facilities study is complete and that a special board meeting will be announced to receive the results. 

The board received a number of reports regarding the commencement of classes at each campus. The elementary school and secondary school reported slight increases in attendance – elementary school reported 375 students and high school 440 students. Among the items of note were the elementary school hosting a Literacy Night on Thursday, Sept. 26, and the high school hosting the Livestock Show on Saturday, Sept. 21.

In the only action before the board, the charge policy for adult meals was approved. Those rates are $3.50 for breakfast and $5 for lunch. All students receive meals free of cost for the 2024-25 school year.

Fifth-grader Emmi Cooper and junior Bryce Taylor were publicly recognized as elementary and secondary students of the month, respectively.

Cooper, whose favorite subject is science, was lauded for her respectful demeanor and keen listening skills. She was described as being a sheer joy in the classroom. Cooper has her eye set on attending a culinary school. 

Taylor was recognized for his remarkable contributions to the Alba-Golden community. As an example of his involvement in school activities, he went directly from the board meeting to band practice for an hour before heading over to play a role in the Joe and a Show production being held that evening on campus. He expects to study psychology first at Tyler Junior College and then at UT Tyler. 

Trustees Mike Ragsdale and Dwayne Ellis were absent.
