Alba Economic Development to fund new city storm siren

Posted

The Alba City Council voted Monday night to authorize the Alba Economic Development Corp. to purchase a storm siren system for the Alba Fire Department. The system will cost $46,650.

It is being funded by the EDC after a grant to purchase the new system fell through.

The council also voted to amend the current zoning for mobile home and HUD housing in Alba.

Since Alba’s “total ban” ordinance on HUD housing had been in violation of the law, the council voted to allow mobile homes under some requirements. A proposed mobile home must be on a permanent foundation such as a concrete slab, be on at least 6,000 square feet of land and be a minimum of 1,200 square feet of living space.

While no official decision was made on adopting park ordinances, the Alba city attorney presented the council with some proposed ordinances for Alba City Park. Board members will take the proposed ordinances and consider them at a later date.

The council will vote on an increase in fines for traffic violations and the like at the next meeting; according to council members, the fines have not been raised in “20 years or more.”

The Alba Fire Department was authorized to set up accounts for non-cash donations, such as Paypal, CashApp, Venmo, etc.

Alba Mayor Don Heinert read aloud part of a resolution declaring October a month in which the city council encourages members of the community to “show appreciation for Texas teachers.”

Council members also announced that Alba will be holding a Trunk or Treat event on the Alba square on Halloween night from 5-8 p.m. and a Veteran’s Day parade on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
