The Alba-Golden ISD Board of Trustees met Monday evening to conduct routine district business while celebrating a major achievement after being named the Region 7 Board of the Year.
Superintendent Dr. Shelby Davidson congratulated trustees on the honor, which recognizes the board’s leadership and commitment to serving students, staff and the community among more than 100 school boards in Region 7.
During his superintendent’s report, Davidson also provided updates on district projects and reminded trustees that teachers will return Aug. 13, with students beginning the 2026-27 school year on Aug. 18.
The board approved the consent agenda, financial reports and budget amendments presented by the administration.
Trustees also approved Aug. 24 as the date for the next regular board meeting, when the district will hold a public hearing on the proposed tax rate and consider adoption of the 2026-27 budget.
The board approved updates to the district’s employee and student handbooks in a 6-1 vote. The most significant revisions involve attendance procedures, establishing attendance-taking times of 9:43 a.m. for the secondary campus and 9:55 a.m. for the elementary campus.
In personnel matters, trustees approved the hiring of Joe Collins as a teacher, coach and the district’s new girls athletic director.
