Alba-Golden senior sets state powerlifting record for all weight classes
Alba-Golden senior Layton Williams lifted almost a ton last Friday at the state powerlifting championships in Abilene.
As a result, he stamped his name into the record books three times.
In addition to defending his state championship in the 275-pound weight class in Division Four, Williams also tied the mark for the squat (770 pounds) and set records for the deadlift at 650 pounds and total weight at 1,930 pounds.
His total weight is also a record for all weight classes in Division Four, eclipsing the records for the 308-pound and super heavyweight classes.
In his weight class, he was 245 pounds ahead of second place.
He recorded a bench press of 510 pounds to complete the event.
He entered the competition as the top-ranked lifter in his class at 1,865 pounds and improved on all three lifts.
His winning total last year was 1,795 pounds.
