An Alba police sergeant has been suspended without pay after he was jailed in Hopkins County on six charges July 18.

David Reed Tipps had bonds set totaling $650,000 following an incident involving his wife, Jessica Beth Tipps, who was also later jailed.

Both remained in custody as of Tuesday.

David Tipps, a former Mineola police officer, was arrested at his Hopkins County home and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault of a date/family/household member with a weapon. The kidnapping charge drew a $150,000 bond and the others $100,000 each.

According to a Hopkins County news release, Tipps used his vehicle to ram a vehicle that had picked up his wife and then he forcibly removed her from the vehicle while pointing a gun at the couple in the vehicle near Miller Grove.

Jessica Tipps was jailed for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1/1B less than one gram later that day and was being held on a $5,000 bond. The arrest followed the discovery of methamphetamine during the execution of a search warrant at their home.

Procedures to terminate Tipps have been initiated by the city.
