Alba water tank requires new interior paint

Posted

A recent inspection revealed the city of Alba’s 75,000-gallon ground storage tank is in need of an interior paint job.

The $27,600 project needs to be done in low water usage months in the winter and spring, according to Public Works Director Paul Kelbe.

The council discussed ways to fund the unbudgeted project.

Kelbe asked that the project be delayed until after the first of the year, after he takes some planned personal leave.

The company doing the work is running about eight weeks behind, he noted.

He explained that the inspection revealed there is excessive corrosion in the tank’s interior.

The council heard from Mockingbird St. resident David Craig about the condition of the street and other concerns.

He said the recent work on the street has been an improvement, but other sections are also showing signs of settling.

Kelbe said he had discussed the follow up work with the contractor.

Craig said the street is also used by trucks as a through street, and the “No through trucks” sign is missing from one end of the street.

The council discussed placing a stop sign where Mockingbird merges into County Road 1676 as it leaves the city limits.

Craig said he keeps the east side ditch cleaned out on his property, but the west side also needs cleaning. He volunteered to assist with the project.
