Aluminum can recycling center benefits Caring & Sharing fund
Has anyone noticed this trailer loaded with cans parked behind Brookshires in Mineola and wondered what it’s all about? It belongs to Mineola Caring & Sharing, a 501(c)3 organization that helps the needy with food, toys, stockings and other gifts during the Christmas season.
Each year the board of directors of Caring & Sharing, with the help of the community, raises over $40,000 for this effort. The aluminum can drive started around eight years ago and is one of the fundraisers. It generally raises $2,500 each year. One of the donating partners is the Mineola VFW. For individuals or businesses that have a number of cans, don’t throw them away. Donate them to Mineola Caring & Sharing. Call Project Chair Roy Shockey at 817-475-9840.
Volunteers are needed to help with this project in several areas. One of the signs on the west side of the trailer needs repainting, and help is needed in emptying the donated bags of cans into the trailer each week. Any help with this project will be appreciated.
