Alvie Jefferson Melton 1944-2021

Graveside services for Alvie Jefferson Melton, 76, of Alba were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at Salem Cemetery.

Mr. Melton passed away Aug. 24, 2021 in Tyler. He was born Nov. 5, 1944 in Kent County to Allie Edgar and Ina Bell Hukill Melton. Alvie married Frances Gayle Thorn on July 1, 1964 in Emory. He lived all his life in the Alba area and was a member of Pilgrim Rest #2 Baptist Church in Golden. He worked as a mechanic and was also employed at Texas Walls for 10 years. Alvie was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 40 years, Frances Gayle Melton; and four brothers.

Survivors include his son, Rodney Melton and wife Pam of Alba; daughter, Arlene Lawrence and husband Colten of Mineola; three brothers, Ronnie Melton and wife Carolyn of Corsicana, Thomas Melton of Wolfe City and Robert Melton and wife Linda of Wolfe City; sister, Helen Joyce Scott of Arkansas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wilson- Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
