Amtrak planning improvements to depot

The Mineola Amtrak depot is scheduled for a major improvement project.

Though the project was initially on the Amtrak Americans with Disabilities Act Station Program for 2023, it has not yet been scheduled.

The plan extends the platform to the west by 250 feet, beyond the new depot for the Iron Horse Square mini-train.

One of the benefits will be the ability of the westbound passenger train to avoid blocking US Hwy. 69 on its morning stop.

New ramps will be installed from the parking lot to the platform

The $1.2 million project includes replacing the fence separating the Iron Horse Square Park from the rail line with a taller, 6-foot fence.

It also includes new signage at the depot.
