Area track meet held April 16; regional track meet May 1-2
A bus load of local athletes will be headed to the 2A and 3A regional track meets, May 1-2, in Palestine and Whitehouse, respectively.
Five Alba-Golden relay teams are bound for regionals. The girls 4x 00-meter and the girls 4x200-meter relay teams placed first at the area meet with times of 49.69 seconds, and 1:46.85. The girls 4x400-meter team placed second with a time of 4:12.51.
Averi Stevenson, Allyie Gilliam, Jayla Sitar and Braelyn Massie ran the 4x100-meter relay. Gilliam, Massie, Sitar and Sadie Wright composed the blue ribbon 4x200-meter relay team. The 4x 00-meter squad was Shaylee Threlkeld, Sitar, Massie and Campbell Shrum.
Two Alba-Golden boys relay teams, the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter, qualified for regionals. They recorded fourth-place finishes with times of 44.20 and 3:30.49, respectively. The x 00-meter team is composed of Kayden Massie, Daidrian Green, Memphis Martinez and Sam Leddy. The 4x400-meter relay is run by Massie, Brett Sutton, Green and Leddy.
Two exceptional individual performances earned a berth at the regionals. Stevenson took the blue ribbon in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.17. Long-jumper Braelyn Massie leapt 15-6.5 feet to claim second place and advance to regionals.
Additional Alba-Golden qualifiers (third and fourth-place finishers) were Kayden Massie (11.28 in the 100-meter dash), Brett Sutton (2:13.44 in the 800-meter run), Averi Stevenson (27.48 in the 200-meter dash), Shaylee Threlkeld (13:47.46 in the 3200-meter run), Allyie Gilliam (4-6.00 in the high jump) and Jayla Sitar (8-6.00 in the pole vault).
Individual performances were also featured at the 3A area meet. Mineola’s Raylie Peebles won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:22.03. Teammates Tierany Neighbors and Shyli Rushing took blue ribbons in the pole vault and shot put with a vault of 11-9 and a throw of 39-6. Lady Jacket Mahayla McMahon’s second-place height in the high jump qualified her for Whitehouse. Quitman’s Annabelle Hollinquest also qualified by placing second in the discus with a toss of 114-3.
The Mineola relay team of Peebles, Stephanie Rojas, Neighbors and Leighlah Wilson won the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4:07.03. The Lady Jackets 4x200-meter team of Jaylee Nevarez, Rojas, Wilson and Neighbors also qualified.They placed second with a time of 1:46.71.
Additional qualifiers (third and fourth-place finishers) for Mineola were Khloe Johnson (17.05 in the 100-meter hurdles), Juliana Hoff (5:37.89 in the 1600-meter run) and Zane Strange (6-0 in the high jump).
Quitman additional qualifiers were Braleigh Wood (2:29.65 in the 800-meter run), Colsten Smith (16.12 in the 110-meter hurdles), Drake Hughes (42.12 in the 300-meter hurdles) and Annabelle Hollinquest (5-0 in the high jump).
The regional meets will be held May 1-2 in Palestine (2A) and Whitehouse (3A).
