Award-winning band director leaving for Class 5A program
Chris Brannan, who led the Mineola High School band to three state marching championships and numerous other state and national awards, submitted his resignation to the school district on Friday morning.
Brannan had informed his students of his decision about three weeks ago, but the district could not officially announce his departure until the receipt of his letter on Friday.
The search for a new director got underway immediately, Superintendent Cody Mize said.
Brannan will be joining the Barbers Hill school district north of Houston, a Class 5A school.
The Mineola Sound of the Swarm captured the bronze medal at the state marching contest in 2015 after Brannan arrived in 2014 and went on to win the title in 2017, 2019 and again last fall. It was also the state’s honor band in 3A.
Brannan came from Queen City, where his bands also captured three consecutive 3A marching titles in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
