Billie John Harpole 1928-2024

Billie John Harpole passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2024 at age 96. Born on June 17, 1928 in Golden, Bill was the son of the late Oscar Milton Harpole and Lois Esther Bellomy Harpole. He grew up in Golden, where he graduated from Golden High School. 

A proud veteran, Bill served in the US Navy during World War II, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his country. Following his military service, Bill found a long and fulfilling career as a railroad conductor.

Bill was a devout member of the Golden Methodist Church, where his faith was a central part of his life. He had a passion for farming and played a significant role in the Golden Sweet Potato parade as the original flag bearer and being honored to serve in 2023 as the Grand Marshal.

On Dec. 5, 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy Lawson Harpole. The couple shared 71 happy years together until Dorothy’s passing on Sept. 28, 2022. Bill was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kathy Ann Harpole Brummett in 1993.

Bill’s legacy lives on through his children; son, Johnny Harpole and wife, Debra, of Golden; and daughter, Julia Harpole and husband, Walter Fitzgerald, also of Golden. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Britney Bon Harpole and Jeffrey Clayton Brummett and wife, Emily; and great-grandson, Theodore James Brummett.

Bill Harpole will be remembered for his service to his country, dedication to his community, and his deep love for his family. His kind spirit and the many lives he touched will not be forgotten.
