Bulldogs gain narrow win in tournament

The Quitman Bulldogs downed North Lamar last Thursday 10-9 in the Grand Saline/Rains Tournament. 

The battling Bulldogs fell behind 6-2 after one inning and 8-5 after two innings but came back to score five runs to just one for North Lamar to win the game. 

The Bulldogs tied the game at 8-8 in the third inning behind Carson Dickens, Jack Tannebaum and Ford Tannebaum who each had a RBI. Ty Holland took the win on the mound for Quitman. 

Quitman’s Landon Richey drew a walk which scored a run in the fourth inning with the score tied 9-9 and that proved to be the winning run.

Hayden Cook went 2-2 for Quitman as the Bulldogs did a great job of running the bases. Mason Reynolds led with four stolen bases.

The Bulldogs took on state-ranked Malakoff on Friday and fell behind 6-0 in the second inning. The Tigers scored five more runs in the final two innings to post an 11-0 shutout over the Bulldogs. 

Cody Hawley, Reynolds, Jack Tannebaum, Dickens and Holland had hits for Quitman. 

The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to tournament host Rains Friday, falling to the Wildcats 6-5 on a score in the bottom of the final inning. It was a tough loss for the Bulldogs as Quitman pitching held Rains to just two hits. The Bulldogs had four errors in the game.

Quitman’s sophomore pitcher Landon Richey was superb allowing no hits while striking out five in four innings. 

Quitman took a 3-2 lead after four innings and led 5-2 until Rains scored three in the bottom of the fifth to tie at 5-5. Rains scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the victory. Ford Tannebaum, Jack Tannebaum, Hawley and Dickens had hits for the Bulldogs.

In a Saturday game, Quitman fell 5-3 as Redwater scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. Bulldog starting pitcher Reynolds pitched well, giving up seven hits while striking out two and only walking one. Reynolds added three stolen bases. Reynolds and Holland had Quitman’s only two hits.
