Dozens of members of the Cartwright community came together Saturday morning to celebrate the opening of the Cartwright Community Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Cartwright Baptist Church Pastor Cody Mize welcomed the crowd and invited church leaders and former students of the Cartwright school to join with him and Brother Fred Morrow as they cut the ceremonial ribbon to symbolize the start of a new era for the community center.
The center was originally a school until it merged with Quitman schools after graduating its last class on 1964. The building later became a community center but fell into disrepair and was even-tually given back to Quitman ISD. In 2015, Cartwright Baptist Church bought the building and began to renovate after receiving numerous donations. The building was completely remodeled and paid in full.
