Chamber preparing Iron Horse Festival

 The Iron Horse Festival, a celebration of Mineola’s historic railroad heritage and the Mineola Chamber of Commerce’s biggest community event, is coming to historic downtown Mineola, on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The event will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entertainment will be on tap all day in the gazebo at Commerce and Johnson streets, next to the rail line that is the heart of the festival and genesis of the community. 

Some of the event attractions include:

• Live music

• Food vendors, beer, wine, cocktails

• Car show

• Weenie dog race

• Pie baking contest

• Corn hole tournament

• Active wall mural painting

• Dance Dimensions performance

• Watermelon eating contest

“Iron Horse is our biggest community event and we’re excited to have so many great activities for residents and visitors to the Mineola area,” said Mary Boone, chamber president. “Visitors to historic downtown Mineola always enjoy the hometown hospitality and the additional opportunity to visit the many unique shops in town.”
