Chemical attack leads to man’s arrest
Brandon Irving Nichols was arrested in Quitman on Wednesday, Dec. 3 after allegedly attacking a family member with chemicals, temporarily impairing her vision.
According to a Wood County affidavit, the incident occurred on Sept. 16 in Quitman. A family member told officials she awoke to the sound of another relative calling for help on the front porch. When she went outside, she saw Nichols coming into her yard and running toward her.
Nichols poured an unknown chemical substance onto her face, hair and clothing, the affidavit said. The victim described the substance as sticky and painful, causing her eyelashes to stick together and impairing her vision.
She also reported hearing Nichols mumble something, though she could not understand what he said, before he went into the woods.
Deputies responded shortly after, and the victim was transported to a hospital, where she received treatment.
A warrant for Nichols’ arrest was issued Dec. 3, and he was taken into custody the same day for injury to a child/elderly/disabled individual. His bond was set at $100,000. He remained jailed Monday.
