Co-op annual meeting family friendly

Wood County Electric Cooperative has redesigned its annual meeting to be family-friendly. It will be Saturday, Oct. 12 at Gov. Jim Hogg Park in Quitman.

“In the past, our meeting was always on a Friday afternoon. We hope that by moving it to a Saturday, and adding fun for the whole family, it encourages more of our members to attend,” said Trey Teaff, CEO and GM.

Prior to the noon meeting the co-op will serve hot dogs and fixings to the public. The co-op has also arranged for Dale “The C” Cummings to entertain with music spanning the ‘60s to the ‘90s. The Creature Teacher will be on hand with many of her interesting and exotic animals. There will be a lineman’s demonstration for the kids and cornhole and face painting.

At noon, WCEC’s annual meeting, a member-only event, will be held under the pavilion. Members will have the opportunity to participate in a prize drawing with many prizes donated by the cooperative’s vendors. Ten $100 electricity credits and a $500 Visa card grand prize will be awarded.

The second Saturday in October is an incredibly popular day for the park in Quitman.

Stitchn’ Heaven, in conjunction with its annual blow-out sale, is producing a free and colorful self-guided quilt show. They have gathered over 100 quilts crafted by their patrons, which will be artfully strung through the park and arboretum for all to admire. They will also provide a bounce house for the kids.

The Quitman Farmers Market, organized by the Quitman Area Chamber of Commerce, will offer locally grown produce, artisan crafts, jams, jellies, soaps, fresh bread and other bakery items and hand-made crafts.

“There will be something for everyone, and we look forward to connecting with members and the community. We hope to see you there,” said Teaff.

WCEC serves over 41,390 meters in parts of nine counties throughout northeast Texas, including Camp, Franklin, Hopkins, Rains, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood.
