Commissioners hear refuge presentation
Wood County commissioners heard a presentation from a representative of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, part of the Department of the Interior, concerning the use of funds to acquire two properties south of Hawkins. The location is along portions of Little Sandy Creek.
Erik Duekop briefed the court on the purpose.
“We are proposing to acquire two tracts, one consisting of approximately 468 acres and the other around six acres. Acquisition of the properties will allow public access to the refuge. This will open the area for recreational activities, including hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and photography. The 468-acre tract contains high-quality bottomland hardwood forest and supports diverse wildlife species that rely on this habitat,” Duekop explained.
Commissioners approved payment of $2,735 to JP Construction of Quitman for repairs to the Wood County Elections/IT offices. The payment was for damage done to the building by Mason Lay on April 29.
In the consent agenda, the Lake Winnsboro concession agreement was approved with Mike and Brenda Post. In another matter, commissioners named Sheriff Kelly Cole and the Wood County Sheriff’s Department as the local rabies authority for Wood County.
Commissioners held two public hearings. Approved during those hearings were an updated and amended Wood County Subdivision Rules and Regulations and an updated and amended Wood County Infrastructure Development Standards for manufactured homes, mobile homes, tiny home and RV rental communities.
Commissioners will return to regular session June 9 at 9 a.m.
