Commissioners OK deal to replace bridge; election judges set

Wood County commissioners approved a resolution with the state to replace the bridge on County Road 3987 at Turkey Creek with an in-kind match.

The county’s contribution amounts to $53,962 to replace a bridge and approaches.

Commissioners approved the appointment of a new county agent for agriculture.

Heather Grider Henk is from Quitman and graduated from Texas A&M in 2001. She previously worked for the extension service in Henderson County as the 4-H agent and has been working with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.

She begins her duties Sept. 1.

Commissioners approved the list of election judges and alternates submitted by Elections Administrator Laura Wise for the November general election.

The judges represent the Republican Party, which drew the most votes in the last governor’s election, and the alternates are Democrats.

Commissioners also approved the order for the election Nov. 5.

Early voting will be held at the Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman the two weeks before the election, Oct. 21 to Nov. 1, including the weekend.
