A portion of Padgett St. in Mineola will now be known as Tuck Dr.

There are two sections of Padgett St., one running east and west and the other in two sections that run north and south.

The original street has been extended over the years, resulting in the potentially confusing nomenclature.

But that does not comply with state addressing standards.

So the north-south section was proposed for renaming, and council member Sue Jones suggested that the city honor a local family – one of whom serves on the city council, Mitch Tuck.

Tuck thanked the council for the honor, and he abstained from the vote.

Council member Cassandra Sampson had also suggested naming the street in honor of famed photographer R.C. Hickman, whose family operated the Bar 20, a popular business that was located on the street and is the subject of an historical marker there.
