County vehicle purchases to require horse-trading

Wood County commissioners approved a pickup for the Precinct Three constable’s office, after learning the Chevy Tahoe that was ordered would take more than a year to arrive.

It will also save the county about $6,000 to $8,000.

The pickup could also be transferred to a road and bridge precinct when it leaves the constable’s office.

Commissioners acknowledged they would consider vehicle purchase options on a case-by-case basis depending upon availability and other factors.

Commissioner Russell Acker noted the county doesn’t want to get into a situation where “everybody gets what they want.”

Also on Tuesday, Oct. 31, commissioners approved allowing the law firm Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott access to the district clerk’s tax case records, at the request of District Clerk Suzy Wright. She asked that the firm be allowed access to save her office time in looking up cases.

The county already allows the law firm Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson similar access for tax cases.

IT Director John Bell said the two firms are not competing for the same accounts.

He said Perdue would have one computer with access, as does Linebarger.

Commissioners officially acknowledged the county’s contribution in the Wood County airport runway extension project for $488,424 to help with the county’s 10% required match on the $8 million project.

The district attorney’s forfeiture and hot check fund budgets were approved for $1,000 and $550, respectively.
