Court sentences criminal defendants
Three guilty-less were entered and sentences assessed in 402nd District Court on Thursday, Sept. 26:
Jerry Lee Cotten, Quitman, theft of property $750 or more but less than $2,500, enhanced, state jail felony, deferred adjudication, five years community supervision, $3,000 fine; theft of property $2,500 or more but less than $30,000, state jail felony, deferred adjudication, $5,688 restitution.
Jennifer Michelle Hunt, Garland, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, second degree felony, four years in state prison.
Kathryn Ann O’Connor, Quitman, assault of family/household member impeding breathing/circulation, third degree felony, deferred adjudication, four years community supervision with 1560 hours community service, $2,000 fine.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25 a Wood County jury acquitted Michael Allan Robinson of Carthage of assault causes bodily injury to a family/household member impeding breathing/circulation, a third degree felony.
The jury was seated on Monday, Sept. 23 in 402nd District Court.
The Wood County district attorney’s office prosecuted the case, and Sten Langsjoen was the court-appointed defense attorney.
Robinson was arrested on Aug. 30, 2023 in Panola County for the June 27, 2023 offense and was indicted Oct. 30, 2023.
He remains jailed on a warrant in another case.
