DAR brings history to life for Mineola’s America 250 celebration
The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is enthusiastically preparing to help make Mineola’s America 250 Celebration a memorable and meaningful tribute to the nation’s 250th birthday.
The chapter is honored to take part in the America 250 celebration at the Mineola Civic Center on July 4. A centerpiece of the chapter’s participation will be a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 6:30 p.m. To bring the moment to life, some readers will appear in period dress while others will wear DAR America 250 T-shirts, creating a patriotic tribute that connects today’s community with the spirit of 1776.
Earlier in the day, the chapter will host a tent filled with hands-on activities for children and families. Young visitors can sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence with a feather pen, enjoy America 250 coloring pages, and create their own tricorn hats from construction paper, complete with a cockade. Free bottles of water and information about the chapter will also be available for those who would like to learn more about the DAR and its mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
