The Northeast Texas Democratic Rally takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman. The eight-county gathering showcases the 2024 Democratic candidates for county, state and U.S. positions of Northeast Texas.

Emceed by former WFAA-Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen, the event features candidate speakers and a presentation from Voters of Tomorrow on Project 2025.

Food and beverages are available for purchase from on-site food trucks, and entertainment is provided by the band Paging Betty and jazz duo Steve “Catfish” Howard and Scott Buchlin.

Hansen spent 38 years in a legendary career with WFAA as a staple of Dallas-Fort Worth sports coverage until his retirement in 2021. He was widely known as the dean of Texas sportscasters with remarkable talent and a deep commitment to quality journalism. Hansen’s career was marked by award-winning features, powerful investigations, and years of reliable sports news broadcasting. Often humorous and blunt, he continues to use his voice to speak to larger issues facing America.

Scheduled speakers include Madeline Gibson, candidate for Wood County Precinct Three commissioner.

Also included are candidates for several area districts for the U.S. House and Texas House of Representatives.

Ruth Torres is running for U.S. House Representative, Texas District 5 which covers an eastern portion of Dallas County and Henderson, Kaufman, Van Zandt and Wood counties and half of Upshur County.

The public is invited to attend and there is no entry fee. For more information on the rally, visit Facebook.com/WoodCountyDem or call (214) 668-4907.
