Downtown Mineola project set to begin
Work is expected to get underway in the next week on the 1888 downtown plaza project in Mineola.
The city is using federal COVID relief dollars to build public restrooms, electronic charging stations and seating on the site of the former 1888 building at S. Johnson and Commerce Streets.
The rocks that have covered the lot since that building was razed five years ago have been removed and relocated to the Mineola Nature Preserve where they will be used for parking during the city’s Sabine Stomp concert on Sept. 2.
Stansell Construction of Mt. Pleasant is the contractor on the project at $601,859, which is expected to take six months to complete.
