Early voting in the spring party primaries began Monday in the Wood County elections office in Quitman.

The office has recorded 304 in-person early votes and another 221 votes by mail for the first day.

Early voting underway in party primaries

Early voting in the spring party primaries began Monday in the Wood County elections office in Quitman.

The office has recorded 304 in-person early votes and another 221 votes by mail for the first day.

The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Saturday voting on Feb.  19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The office will be closed Monday, Feb. 21 for Presidents’ Day and will reopen Tuesday at 8 a.m., with early voting continuing through Friday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will no be early voting in any other locations.

On Election Day, Tuesday, March 1, voters should cast their ballots at their respective voting precincts.

Democrats and Republicans will be sharing polling locations.

There are no local candidates on the Democratic ballot.

The local races on the Republicans side include county judge-Lucy Hebron and Kevin White, commissioners for Precincts Two-Jerry Gaskill and Sten Langsjoen and Four-Russell Acker and James Whitehurst, Justice of the Peace in Precinct Three-Jerry Parker and Gary Dixon, and district attorney-Angela Albers and Jim Wheeler.

County clerk, district clerk and county treasurer candidates are unopposed, as are the other three justices of the peace.

Ballots will also include all of the major statewide offices.

Wood County’s state representative is also a contested race in the Republican primary between Cole Hefner and Dewey Collier. State Sen. Bryan Hughes is unopposed.
