Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association North Central Texas Chapter, is bringing a free program series to Quitman on “Know the 10 Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease”, “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body” and “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia.”

The series takes place on Fridays, Aug. 16, 23 and 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Rock Solid Fitness.

Lindsey Yeager, Wood County Extension Agent for Family & Community Health, will be facilitating the program.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 6.9 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s. Many people find it difficult to distinguish normal aging and cognitive impairment, causing a lot of unfounded fear about the disease.

“Many older adults live in fear of Alzheimer’s Disease and worry that they may be developing it after forgetting to make a phone call or misplacing an item,” Yeager said. This program will address the differences between normal forgetfulness and causes for concern. It will also discuss resources and next steps after an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
