If your idea of a great time is strolling through lovely gardens while learning about plants and gardening tips, you won’t want to miss the Fannie Marchman Garden Club’s 2026 Garden Tour on May 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The tour features four Mineola gardens with distinctly different personalities. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Find one of the ladybugs hidden at each garden and win a door prize. Tour tickets are $10 and may be purchased at any of the stops on the tour.
The Border home at 804 N. Newsom offers a warm welcome to Garden Tour visitors with masses of orange, white and yellow flowers in the front beds. The backyard is full of lush greenery and a water feature. A stone playhouse was converted by the homeowner into a charming potting shed.
The Underwood home at 708 Sycamore calls to mind an English garden, where grass is superfluous and replaced with a kaleidoscope of gaily colored blooms. The backyard also is filled with vivid hues and quirky yard art sure to make you smile.
Walking through the sizeable Bartz garden at 240 CR 2450 gradually reveals several “rooms,” each with a different theme. It’s a sensory treat, with sight, hearing and smell all engaged. Visitors will love Sherry’s “She Shed,” where family antiques and floral fabrics create a welcoming space.
The Baker home at 1601 FM 49 displays a landscape with formal elegance and a medley of flowering plants. The backyard also presents appealing color and texture, along with an amazing view of a large, pristine pond with its fountain spraying a tall plume of water. Though they needed a machete to get to the pond when they bought the property, it was nothing that a bulldozer and weeks of backbreaking work couldn’t fix.
In addition, there’s an educational stop at Gray’s Nursery at 5685 TX-37, where mini-lectures on “Pollinator Power” and “Living Dirt” will be given to Garden Tour ticket holders. A 10% discount also will be applied to plant purchases made the day of the tour.
