The First Baptist Church of Mineola will celebrate its 150th anniversary Oct. 18-19.
There will be a reception and historical exhibit from 4-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Fellowship Hall. It will be followed by a Hymn Sing at 6 p.m.
A special worship service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. Dr. Mark Neeley will be preaching. Neeley was the longest tenured pastor in the history of the church.
Pictured is the first church. It was built in 1877-78 on the same lot the church now occupies. Dr. A.L. Patten helped fund the purchase of the lot. His daughter, Minnie (1860-1935), was one of the first organists. Col. John H. Burnett named Mineola after her in early 1873.
