First Methodist of Mineola hosts His Kids program
First Methodist of Mineola holds His Kids, a weekly after-school program for elementary students that includes Bible lessons, music, science activities and games.
The fall semester runs Wednesdays from Sept. 23 through Nov. 18. The program is open to first- through fifth-grade students attending Mineola ISD schools.
Transportation is provided after school from Mineola Primary and Intermediate schools to the First Methodist Ministry Center at 612 N. Newsom St. in Mineola.
The program ends at 5:30 p.m. Each session begins with a snack, followed by activities led by adult volunteers.
Youth group volunteers in sixth grade and above lead games under the direction of Johnny “Moe” Callison.
Children’s Director Felicia Jennings said the program helps children learn more about their faith. “The purpose is to bring children closer to Jesus and for the kids to gain a better understanding of what it means to live by faith,” Jennings said.
A second semester is planned for late January through the end of the 2026- 27 school year, with exact dates still to be determined.
The church is also seeking volunteers to help with the program. Volunteers must pass a background check and obtain Safe Sanctuary certification.
