Scouts from Troop 385 and 342 conducted the reverent ceremony.

Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Mineola hosted a flag retirement and dedication ceremony Saturday to honor its veterans.
Scouts from Troop 385 and 342 conducted the reverent ceremony.
Honored veterans included Army National Guard-David Shelton, Darrell Burrow; Army-Leo Hala, Jim “Coach” Armstrong, Wendell Salsman; Navy-Shirley Adams, Charles McDougald (World War Two); Air Force-Barbara Stephenson, Don Santini; and Marines-James Krodel (World War Two). And residents of the Autumn Wind cottages who are veterans: Navy-Johnnie Garrett, Harry Williams; Army-J.W. Roland (World War Two), Albert Watts (World War Two); Air Force-Don Santini, Keith Clark, Betty Bywater; and Marines-William Tucker.
The event coincided with the 77th anniversary of the iconic raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima, in the Pacific Theater of World War Two, where Mr. Krodel served.
