It's the last Friday in August – zero week for high school football in Texas – and the Mineola Yellowjackets are hosting the Canton Eagles.

The Eagles come to town to help break in Mineola's new turf with Coach Heath Ragle, who returned to his home district as head coach after being an assistant in Mineola.

Alba-Golden actually got to help break in in the field last night with a 55-0 victory over Detroit, after the Panthers' field was unplayable following Monday's torrential rains.

Quitman opens on the road tonight at New Diana.

Mineola opens the game with a 79-yard drive before fumbling at the Canton 1-yard line.

End of one quarter and Mineola and Canton are scoreless, with Mineola driving its third possession inside the Eagle 30.

At halftime Quitman trails New Diana 13-6.

Mineola gets on the board with a 2-yard run from Dawson Pendergrass. The extra point makes it 7-0.

Canton returns the kick off for a score and it's tied 7-7.

Mineola grabs a fumble at the Canton 25, and two runs and a penalty later, Pendergrass is in the endzone again. The Jackets lead 14-7 in the 2nd quarter.

Canton responds with a long drive. Mineola blocks the extra point and Pendergrass returns it for a safety to keep Mineola in the lead 16-13.

And that's the halftime score at Meredith Memorial Stadium in Mineola.

Quitman trails New Diana in the 4th quarter 20-12.

On a busted play where Canton hiked the ball over the quarterback's head, the Eagles scramble for a long touchdown run and lead 20-16.

Quitman pulls within 20-18 but fumbles in the last minute inside the New Diana 20.

Canton adds another score to lead Mineola 27-16 in the 3rd quarter.

End of the third quarter finds Mineola with 3rd and goal at the Canton six, trailing by 11 points.

Pendergrass scores on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line from the wildcat formation.

Mineola takes a time out on the extra point.

The extra point pass to Brady Shrum is good to make it 27-24 with 11:03 to play.

Canton runs 55 yards on its first play to the Jacket 20.

Six runs and the Eagles are in the endzone to stretch the lead to 34-24.

Mineola drives inside the Canton 5-yard line but is stopped on three straight runs with 2:18 to play to face 4th and 5.

The 22-yard field goal makes it 34-27, Canton.

Canton recovers the onside kick attempt. Mineola has just one time out left. 2:12 left in the game.

Canton runs for a first down but fumbles and Mineola gets it at their own 29-yard line with 1:04 to go.

Three plays gain one yard.

Pass complete to the Canton 47.

A run to the 37 with 14 seconds left.

A fumble ends the game.

Canton wins 34-27.
