James Dunaway, 74, of Alba passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at his home on Lake Fork with his wife Phyllis and family by his bedside. He was born on Aug. 20, 1947 in Los Angeles, Calif. to the late Carrol and Betty Terrio Dunaway. James was a 1965 graduate of Carson High School in California and served honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam from 1966 to 1968, attaining the rank of sergeant. James was a loyal grandson and son. He was a great father and provider and amazing grandfather. He loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis (Aaron) Dunaway of 54 years; son, Michael Dunaway and wife Marina of Lake Dallas; daughters, Karen Bowery and husband Jarel of Gladewater and Kathryn Gibson and husband Kevin of New Braunsfels; sisters, Mary Moore and husband Danny of Highland Village and Geneva Dunaway and husband Richard Geib of Mission; step-brother, Gordon Pender of Lone Oak; aunt, Lucille McCombs of Bryan; grandchildren, Alexander, Darya, Milana, Dalton, James Garrett and wife Riley, Courtney and Hailey; great-grandchildren, Charlee Grace and Andie Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Chaplain David Badders officiating.
