Jury hands down 2-year sentence

A Wood County jury sentenced Brandon Shane Albrightson, 48, of Winnsboro to two years in state jail for injury to a child, a state jail felony.

He was found guilty on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and sentenced on Wednesday to the maximum punishment.

The evidence showed that on Sept. 14, 2023, Winnsboro police responded to a father and two brothers in the lobby wanting to make a report.

The father told officers that his sons had just arrived at his house from their mother’s residence, about a mile away, where their mother’s boyfriend, Albrightson, had “put hands on” the oldest child.

The oldest child, who was 11, told officers that his mother became angry with him and struck him in the head with an open and closed fist multiple times. The child also informed officers that Albrightson shoved him against a wall and told the child “fight me like a man.” The child further informed officers that it hurt when Albrightson shoved him against the wall. The oldest child also informed officers that his mother and Albrightson were both “drunk… and mean and aggressive.”

The youngest child, 7, was also at the mother’s residence during the altercation and corroborated the oldest child’s account of the events.

“The defendant has proven on more than one occasion that he not only is violent, but will continue to be violent without regard to consequences,” said District Attorney Angela Albers.

Prosecutors were Candice Henry and Logan Sawyer.
